Alex was born in Montreal, Canada and his family immigrated to the United States when he was 2 yrs. Old, settling in Cleveland, OH. He served in the U.S. Army Air-Force during WWII as a Corporal in the finance department, because of his skills in math and typing 127 words per minute on a manual typewriter. He was commissioned to become an officer, but when he met the love of his life he declined the offer. He married Helen Chipka and they were together for over 63 years until she passed away in 2014. Alex loved his five daughters and would take them camping and boating every summer. Alex was a photo journalist having many articles published in the newspapers. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing and was an accomplished self-taught harmonica player. He taught English and Business classes to students at Maple Heights Junior High School. He loved being a teacher and his students loved him in return. It’s been said that he was their favorite teacher. Alex held his good sense of humor, even up to his final days of his life.
